Homebodii Bride of the Month: Shirley Yin
A little bit about me…
I’m Shirley – a content creator and creative at heart. You could say I have one too many creative passions so naturally my wedding became another one of my creative projects (except on a much larger scale).
Our approach to planning the wedding was…
To keep it timeless with a romantic with a vintage twist, that still felt uniquely us. I worked closely with my planner, Viv from FOLA, dreaming and executing all the wild ideas that flowed through my mind. I ended up doing a lot of DIY too which I’m excited to share more through my wedding branding and stationery business: Two Neighbours Studio. The DIY probably brought a bit more stress than I anticipated but seeing it all come to life at my dream venue Kinklewood made everything worth it.
Looking back we’re so glad that we…
Handpicked each and every one of our vendors. We truly had the A team and without them, our day would not be as perfect as it was. We made sure to speak to each of our vendors before going ahead with them, making sure we were a good fit for each other. At the end, it just felt like a big party with all our friends (rather than vendors working for us). Everyone went above and beyond for us, and we are so grateful for them.
The most unexpected part of the day was…
The crazy 60/km winds! We were lucky enough not to get any rain, but no one prepared us for the wind. I wish I had veil weights (this is one for future brides to keep in mind!) because my veil felt like it was flying off my head when I was walking down the aisle. Thankfully the winds died down towards the reception. We also ran a little delayed with our schedule, and because of that, we ended up driving off into the sunset right after we entered reception. It was such an iconic moment which we did not plan for and became one of the most memorable moments for ourselves (and our guests!)
When I look back now, I feel…
Eternally grateful to everyone who showed up for us! Besides being the best day of our lives, the one thing that I’ll forever remember is the sheer love and joy I felt in the room. You don’t get many chances where all your loved ones are in one space together, so having that was truly an experience I will treasure for the years to come.
My advice to new brides…
The day goes by SO fast. Make a conscious effort to stay present and try to stick with your husband throughout every moment so you can experience the wedding day exactly the same. It made all the difference for us.
My Homebodii moment was special because…
My Homebodii moment was special because my girls and I felt so comfortable and at home, yet we did not have to compromise on style. I wore the Emilie Pyjama Set and my bridesmaid wore the Petra Tencel Pyjama Set. They were absolutely perfect and I love that I still get to wear them as everyday PJs without the feather trims.
