"Australian made" means the garment was substantially made here. "Designed in Australia" means the design work happened here and the sewing may not have. "Australian owned" says nothing about where it was made. Brands should tell you which one they mean, so here's ours.

The three labels

  • Australian made. Under Australian Consumer Law, the last substantial transformation of the product has to happen in Australia. For clothing, that's the cutting and sewing.
  • Designed in Australia. Pattern making, fabric selection and design happen here; manufacturing may be offshore. This is common for most Australian fashion brands.
  • Australian owned. The company is owned here. It says nothing about where the product is made.

How Homebodii labels its pieces

Everything we make is designed on the Gold Coast. Some styles are made in Australia and say so on the product page; others are made by long-term partner manufacturers overseas that we've chosen for their ethical standards. Embroidery and personalisation are done in-house here. Where a product page says "designed in Australia" without "made", that's what it means. I'd rather be plain about it than vague.

Mila Bamboo Lounge Pyjama Set — long bamboo pyjama set, OEKO-TEX certified and breathable

Why not make everything here?

Cost and capability. Some fabrics and finishes, particularly fine lace, aren't produced at scale in Australia. We're honest on our About page that we're not yet 100% sustainable or 100% local, and we keep working on both.

What to look for instead of the flag

Fabric certification (OEKO-TEX Standard 100 means tested free from harmful chemicals; ours is). A brand that names its fabrics. A returns policy you can read. And whether the business you're buying from is actually here, holding stock, answering the phone.

Quick answers

Are Homebodii robes made in Australia?

Some are. Each product page says whether the piece is made in Australia or designed in Australia. Ask our Style Concierge if it isn't clear.

Is 'designed in Australia' misleading?

Not if it's stated plainly. It becomes misleading when it's dressed up to look like 'made in'.

Does OEKO-TEX mean organic?

No. It means the finished fabric is tested for harmful substances. Organic is about how the raw fibre is grown.

Our fabrics, named
